Questions and Answers
Q. What is the Club's "Mission Statement"? A. The Just For Kicks Soccer Club is dedicated to putting fun into soccer. The Club holds the greatest respect for it's players, parents, coaches, referees, volunteers and the community. The Club's goal is to instill good sportsmanship and fair play while promoting and developing soccer at all skill levels and ages. The Club envisions the "Beautiful Game" as a "Fun Game" regardless of the level of competition. Just For Kicks Soccer is an organization which will not allow the "politics" of a sport to intermix with the purpose of the game, which is to Have Fun!
Q. Why should I join Just For Kicks Soccer Club instead of another club? A. The number one reason why youth players want to join soccer is to have fun. JFK teaches youth players at a level in which they can comprehend, the simple rules of the game and how to play as an individual and as a team member. At JFK, youth players learn with as much fun and enthusiasm as they have in playing the game. If the game is not fun, it is not a game and this may deter players and parents from returning year after year. Having fun does not mean there cannot be competition or development of skills. All can coexist simultaneously. JFK is in no way saying it is better than other clubs, but JFK is different in many ways. In choosing a club, you should determine which club suits your price range, location, skill level and needs the best. Scarborough has over a dozen youth clubs, each with its own uniqueness. Feel free to try a different club if you have a "bad experience" at one club. You should not allow that to put you off on soccer all together. Speak with the club's management about your experience. They may be able to assist you if not at least learn from the experience. JFK has an open door policy. If you are not satisfied for any reason, let us know ASAP, we will do something about it.
Q. I am a parent with a serious soccer background and I want my child to excel in the game. Is Just For Kicks Soccer a good club for me? A. Just For Kicks Soccer has a competitive league called Scarborough Kicks All-Star League. Although the name is different, it is the same club. Scarborough Kicks is for players U7 and older that have above average soccer skills. Players can further develop their skills through extra practices and development clinics which the Club runs. Players may advance to competitive leagues and tournaments at the Rep level (not available at this time). JFK Soccer is also affiliated with Score Soccer Academy which brings a higher level of development to players and coaches.

Q. I have already joined, when does the season start? A. The outdoor season starts at the end of May. The indoor season starts in November. You may receive a newsletter at registration, in the mail or by email. You will not be contacted again until the season is ready to commence. Near the beginning of the season, you will be called by your child's coach. The coach will give you a schedule indicating when and where you play your games and practices. The coach will also give you other information and/or materials which are part of the program.
Q. How are the teams picked? A. Teams are picked based on location, skill level, age group (year of birth) and gender. The skill level is based on previous year's evaluation, the experience recorded on the registration form & pre-season evaluations. Players are sorted into divisions, then into evenly strengthed teams. This helps eliminate team "stacking". Team are then randomly assigned a coach. This helps eliminate "favoritism". As a general rules, the JFK Directors do not coach individual teams unless there is a gap to fill.
Q. Why does the registration fee seem so little? A. There are many reasons for this... Volunteers help reduce labor expenses. Modest clubhouse to support. Many generous sponsors. Great fund raising events. Effective low-cost purchasing. Large volume discounts. Community based organization. JFK Soccer is a registered not-for-profit corporation (non-profit community club).
Q. Why are there 2 different programs for ages 5 to 14? A. Players with the greater amount of experience are usually placed into the "All-Star House League". Those that are newer to soccer are placed in the "Just For Kicks Recreational House League". This helps each player to develop at their own pace. If the 2 types of players were mixed, the coach would have to conduct part of the practice with the basics for the beginners, hence losing the attention of the more experienced players, while still having to conduct part of the practice with advanced techniques which may overwhelm the beginners. Also, in separating the 2, the less experienced players will get a more even share of ball possession in a game.
Q. Does Just For Kicks Soccer have a girls only division? A. Yes, it successfully started in 2006 and will continue with ages from U6 to U13.
Q. How are the age groups divided? A. This will depend on the total number of players in each age group.

A player that wants to play in a game or practice that wears a cast, brace or other medical object(s), must supply the Club’s Administration Office with written permission from a doctor stating that the player/patient is not in any danger or harm in participating in soccer and related activities. The player with such permission for a doctor, may at the discretion of the Club, be given a letter of “Player Approval” from the Club which must be brought to each game and practice in case required to provide proof by a Club Official, Game Official or Team Official. Such medical object and associated body part(s) must be wrapped in a minimum of 3” thick soft foam to protect both the player/patient and other participants that may come into contact with said object. No hard surfaces may be exposed. The Game Official and/or Club Official may at his or her own discretion, revoke such permission, in which said “Player Approval” letter must be returned to the Club Office and be given further review. Q. Can I play with a Muslim Hijab on or other religious jewelry? A. As long as the Hijab is not dangerous to any one while playing. That would mean the it cannot contain any pins (safety pins, bobby pins, fashion pins or other type of pins). Female Muslim members which must wear a Hijab, should ask their local clothing store for a "Al Amira Hijab". This is a sport Hijab which should pose no problems while playing and enjoying soccer. Any other religious clothing items require the permission of the Just For Kicks Soccer Club Management. Items which are not allowed are Kirpan, jewelry (necklace, bracelet, rings, earrings, etc.) regardless of the reason. Q. I have registered but I don't receive the newsletters by email or mail. Why not? A. If JFK Soccer has your email address, all correspondence will be sent by email. If we don't have it, we will send it by regular mail. A typo will mean you won't receive it. If you register on line, check for typos in your email address. Common errors are "spaces" in email addresses and putting 2 email addresses on one line. i.e. If you type on one line ... john@roger.ca and john@bell.ca It will show up as one big incorrect email address not 2 separate email addresses. Be sure whether your email address is a .com or .ca, it makes a difference. When typing your home address, be sure to include the apartment or townhouse number. If you are using a paper registration form, please make sure you PRINT CLEARLY on the registration form. If we can't read any part of it, you may not receive any mail or even a phone call if the phone number is not legible.
