NEW THIS SUMMER: Inter-Club Scarborough League (ICSL)
New Inter-Club Scarborough League (ICSL) is for 10 to 18 year olds, boys or girls (separate teams) and is a competitive house league similar to XP and G3. ICSL accepts players of any experience. There are referees, standings, championships and playoffs. Games are played against teams from other local soccer clubs. The ICSL games are in Scarborough, mostly at the field in the Port Union area but some games could be in West Hill, Thomson, Bluffs or Malvern. All JFK ICSL teams will have their practices in the Thomson area. Players (and coaches) can join the ICSL and the XP or Rec or G3 or Girls Rec, as the schedule is designed not to have conflicting game nights, or you can belong to just 1 league. There is a special introductory price to do both ICSL and a JFK league - Save up to $100. Add ICSL to your summer league program for only $129. ICSL only registration fee is $160. Players that join the ICSL also receive additional training from experienced certified coaches. More details at Inter-Club League.

Player Assessments Coming April
A Soccer skills assessment is a practice/game for players which have joined the summer outdoor season. During the session, Technical Coaches evaluate the players to help insure players are in the correct program (Recreational - mainly for beginners, or XP All-Star - for the experienced). With this multi-tiered level of play, beginners play with beginners and experienced play with experienced (generally speaking). The assessments (in conjunction with past evaluations, coach recommendations & registration form ratings) also helps JFK create balanced teams (at least in theory) for the summer. Invitations sent to players requiring an assesment.

Sorry for the typo
There's an obvious typo in the printed March flyer that says the Spring Fever Program price is "Regularly $20" and the sale price is $95. The regular price is actually $120. It's on sale this month for $95.

Of all the sports played in Canada, we are really proud that a soccer player was voted as the CBC's Athlete of the Year and we are especially proud that a woman was voted as the best. It's been a number of years since a woman topped the list. Why is JFK's so proud it's a female? We have over 700 females in our Club competing at various levels of play. Plus, we have a "Girls Got Game" inter-club league and a great Women's Fitness Program we have been running for a number of years.

Increasing permit fees putting pressure on community groups
Non-profit clubs like Just For Kicks Soccer rent school and city soccer fields and gymnasiums by the hour. These hourly permit fees are responsible for a large portion of the registration fees that the clubs charge its members. We are sorry we've been having to increase our membership fees, but it's to cover our costs. Just For Kicks is not-for-profit and charges only enough to pay the expenses, not even actually, thanks to generous sponsors and individuals that donate to the club. If you'd like to sponsor or donate, please contact JFK. If you would like to join JFK but can't afford it, please contact JFK for free soccer options. Girls Got Game Tournament Team Try-outs Learn, develop, practice, play. For all expereinced girls ages 10 to 18 years old (born 1994 to 2000).  Details have been sent to registered summer members.  Coaching is provided by certified and experienced coaches.  Interested players will need to RSVP to JFK.  Limited availability.  This program is independant from the house league programs.  The tournament(s) are after the regular season has ended in September (outdoors). JFK is looking for players born 1999 to 2003 (generally ages 8 to 12 years old), boys & girls of all races to participate in a National TV commercial for a great charity. The players must have some basic soccer skills (not a beginner). If you do the commercial, the player will be paid $80. Email JFK for details.

Girls Got Game Free Skills Training Learn, develop, practice, play. It’s free for all girls ages 8 to 18 in Scarborough. The Friday Evening Skills Training program is played throughout the summer and there are some introductory classes in the Spring (on Sundays). FREE Girls Got Game (G3) Skills Training - SPRING
Players must pre-register for clinics via e-mail. You can attend either or both dates. Clinics are at David & Mary Thomson CI School (in the back gym). Proper soccer gear required, shin guards a must. NO CLEATS. Bring a ball if you have (we will have extras to use). Clinics are 70-90 minutes depending on group. XP All-Star Update February 18
Good luck in your games.  The way the standings sit before the last regular game is quite incredible.  Of the 5 XP divisions, not a single team is guaranteed first place.  It all depends on what happens in the February 19th games.  A special good luck to the two teams that are in last place that have never won a game this season.  Go underdogs!  The U7 & U11 are especially close in their divisions with 5 and 6 points respectfully separating first place from last place.  Over 100 players have scored this season, that’s well over half the players.  Bravo!  Depending on the results of the February 19th games, Andrew W of the U17 division could be the first person to be the entire XP league’s highest goal scorer for 2 winter seasons in a row.  Andrew has 12 goals right now, tying his record from last year.  Nicholas B in the U13 division could be the highest goal scorer in his division 2 years in a row with 12 current goals.  Mahdi C in the U11 division and Adam W in the U17 division are currently the highest goal scorers with 13 goals each.  This season we’ve seen only 1 blowout game with double digit goals.  Attendance had a lot to do with that game.  The goalkeeping has been incredibly great this year.  Most have the games have been very close in scores.  Once again, good luck.  It’s not winning or losing that defines us but how we act when we win or lose.

Scarborough is home to the great De Ro & also the great Puopolo
Not only is Scarborough home to the great Dwayne De Rosario, but also home to Carmelina Puopolo, who will receive the most prestigious among an of array awards she has garnered this season when the National Soccer Coaches Association of America honors her as the 2011 NCAA Division II Player of the Year later this month.  Carmelina had nothing short of a stellar 2011 campaign.  With a scholarship to The College of Saint Rose (New York), she lead them to the NCAA National Championship in Florida.  Carmelina improved on a stellar freshman season to become one of the nation’s top scoring threats as a sophomore.  Carmelina finished tied for first in the country with a school-record 51 points on 19 goals and 13 assists.  She furthermore led the nation with 10 game-winning-goals, had at least one point in 20 of the 25 games she appeared in and registered six multi-goal games on the year.  Carmelina garnered numerous other accolades throughout the close of the season as well.  She was named both a Daktronics and NSCAA first-team All-American, and was voted the Most Outstanding Offensive Player of the NCAA Tournament.  Carmelina also earned first-team All-League accolades from the Northeast-10 Conference and was recognized as a CoSIDA/Capital One first-team District 1 Academic All-American® for academic and athletic excellence.  Carmelina played in local Scarborough clubs as a youth and attended Cardinal Newman High School.  Great job Camelina!  A tidbit on NSCAA, not too long ago, JFK Soccer had 5 senior coaches pass the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s National Coaching Diploma Course, an extensive 9 day on-campus resident coach training course.  JFK offers members different levels of coaching courses and clinics from hour long clinics to multi-day courses.  For more information, contact JFK.

Girls Got Game
Thank you to all the girls that participated in the Girls Got Game Program.  This was a by invitation only program giving girls extra practices & games to further develop their skills & zest for soccer.  It was a great success.  Girls rule. 

Girls Got Game League 2012
New girls league in addition to the usual girls league.  Something more competitive.  For girls born 1994 to 2001.  Girls only league with full field, full goals, 11-a-side, offsides, championships, play-offs, same price as Rec & XP.  Register today.  Limited availability.

The Girls Got Game (G3) expands.  Training & game preparation for 7 to 18 year old girls coming in the Spring.  Details to be announced soon.

Are you registered for Winter?
The indoor program tentatively starts November 6.  You will receive an email conformation in early October that you are registered.  You will receive an email and/or phone call about a week before the start of the program with the complete details for your first day of soccer.

Soccer Skills Assessment - What is an “assessment”?  Do I have to come?  Why?
An assessment is a practice/game for players which have joined the summer outdoor season.  During the session, Technical Coaches evaluate the players to help insure players are in the correct program (Recreational - mainly for beginners, or XP All-Star - for the experienced).  With this multi-tiered level of play, beginners play with beginners and experienced play with experienced (generally speaking).  The assessments (in conjunction with past evaluations, coach recommendations & registration form ratings) also helps JFK create balanced teams (at least in theory).  These sessions are held for new and past members. Only those that are invited need to attend and if you cannot make it, not to worry, you will be given basic rating unless JFK has records indicating otherwise.  Past members that played last summer, winter or spring most likely have been assessed by their past coaches but these players may be invited to confirm or update their rating as well as to use as a comparison for other players.  One of our goals is to insure that no team loses every game.  In fact, if you lose every game in the summer (U6 to U18 divisions), you will receive your next season for free.  If you receive an assessment notice, please attend if you can.  Instructions will be in your assessment invitation.


Spring Fever comes to an end.  The outdoor season will be starting around the end of May.

Parents Information Clinic 
As a new or returning soccer family, you may wonder more about what you are getting into.  What's your commitment, what's your options, what are parents expected to do during games and practices, what about snacks, who's my child's coach, how should we behave, what should we expect?  We'll answer many of the questions and sum up the season for you.  To be honest, we'd love to meet you before the season starts.  There's no charge for this clinic.  It's on Sunday, April 10 at 9:45am at David & Mary Thomson School (in the front gym).  Pre-register for free via email. 

NEW & Improved Girls Only League
JFK will be having a girls only league this summer.  Hurray!  We've made some changes to make it better.  To support the enrollment of girls joining soccer, JFK will have girls only at the Thomson location.  JFK will have the following girls only divisions: U5, U7, U9, U11 & U14.

JFK will be having a referee meeting on Sunday, April 17 at 4:30pm in the front gym at David & Mary Thomson CI School 2740 Lawrence Avenue (between Brimley & Midland).  If you want to referee this summer, please attend.  Please print and fill out a referee application from the Referee page and bring it with you to the meeting.  Please email JFK to let them know you are attending or if you cannot make this meeting, email JFK to state you want to referee but can't make the meeting.

NEW XP Soccer League – A competitive league for eXperienced Players in Scarborough.
This is not for beginners.  It’s for experienced players with at least average skills for their age, who want to play competitively for championships.  There’s no tryouts and no bench warmers.  It’s the same fee as the recreational house league and includes full uniform, ball, trophy plus medals for the champions.  All games and practices are in Scarborough.  It’s actually a new name for JFK’s All-Star League. 

March Break Challenge Tournament - The Results Thomson ties the series 2-2.  Four years of East vs West competitions came to an exciting conclusion.  Thomson is just as good as West Hill.  This year's Challenge had the Thomson teams win & tie 13 games while West Hill won & tied 9 games.  Thomson was the big winner in the U7 division while West Hill was the big winner in the U8 division.  Overall, Thomson did slightly better in the younger age groups while West Hill did slightly better in the older age groups.  Thank you to all the participants, coaches, referees, volunteers and organizers.
